Replica Studios empowers developers and creatives to produce high-quality voice performances at scale using AI. With a growing library of performed voices, Replica became a go-to platform for game studios and virtual production teams. But we saw a growing demand for custom voices, unique character voices not found in any library.
Game developers, studios, and creators wanted to use their own voice, a specific individual’s voice, or a fictional character’s voice across dynamic content. The challenge was to make it easy, safe, and scalable to create an AI voice that sounds just like a real person—with full consent and control.
That challenge led to Voice Clone, a product within Voice Studio that enables creators to generate realistic AI voice models based on a short voice sample, all inside a secure browser-based workflow.

MY ROLE
As Lead Product Designer, led the product design for Voice Clone from early concept, wireframes, prototypes, to production launch, working closely with the CEO, CTO, machine learning, and engineering teams to shape the product vision.
Also, as a co-product owner, I helped establish the roadmap and create detailed product tickets for the engineering team with User Stories, Requirements, Acceptance Criteria, Designs, Prototypes, etc.
My contributions also included:
Designing the UX flow for secure voice capture and clone generation
Creating clear, ethical opt-in flows for creators
Balancing creative flexibility with anti-abuse guardrails
Integrating voice clones seamlessly into the broader Voice Studio pipeline
Doing testing and quality assurance on the product
Using research and customer insights to shape the product vision and priorities

DESIGN APPROACH
Voice Clone needed to feel like part of the studio pipeline, not a lab experiment. Our goal was to make cloning your voice feel as natural as recording a performance, while protecting against misuse.
Fast, consent-first voice cloning: Users could clone a voice from just a few seconds of audio, recorded directly in-browser or uploaded, through a process designed to be both swift and secure. Every clone required a verified identity and explicit permission to ensure ethical usage from the beginning.
Performance-focused voice capture: We emphasised performance diversity, not just neutral tone, so the resulting clone could support expressive, character-driven performances.
Seamless integration: Once cloned, the voice immediately appeared inside Voice Studio and was ready to use with Voice Director, just like any Replica voice.

Voice Clone marked a critical evolution in how Replica supports creative teams. It wasn’t just about cloning a voice; it was about capturing performance and giving creators tools to shape and re-use that voice in new, scalable ways.
A core takeaway was that ethical AI tools succeed when paired with an intuitive experience and transparent process. We ensured that every aspect—from clone permissions to user control—was clear, trustworthy, and designed to safeguard the individuals behind the voice.
Voice Clone unlocked a new era of character development, where custom AI voices could carry story, emotion, and personality across entire worlds.
