Kirin Cider engaged typographer Gemma O’Brien to hand paint bespoke advertising displays at numerous locations in urban areas around Australia, from Fitzroy, VIC to Redfern, NSW.
The Sydney-based typographer and creative, lends her dramatic stylised script to the already impactful black and white creative for Kirin Cider that sets the brand apart from anything else on the market. The majority of 3m x 4.5m signs were painted in Gemma’s studio, but on November 18, Gemma painted the signage for the Surry Hills location in situ, on the corner of Crown and Foveaux Street. Here, Gemma talks to us about her influences and craft. #inspiredcider

Kirin Cider commissioned one of the world’s leading modern letterpress practices, The Distillery, to create a range of bespoke branded coasters.
Based in Darlinghurst, Sydney, The Distillery is a modern outfit, driven by old-fashioned quality and
run by a team who have turned their personal passions for design and craft into a simple mission – to help spread the love of letterpress in Australia.
Designer and printer Ben Toupein speaks on the heritage of his craft and the resurgence letterpress is having in the modern age. He takes us through the simple yet intricate process and explains how each machine has its own temperament.
“It’s really great to be part of something that is bringing back old crafts and handmade techniques. It’s nice to be part of an environment where we create things and actually get our hands dirty” – Ben
